TORI KARAAGE
WHAT IS TORII KARAAGE ? Tori Karaage is essentially Japanese fried chicken INGREDIENTS YOU NEED TO MAKE TORI KARAAGE
250gr of chichen thigh – washed well and cut into your preferred sizes
1/2 cup of soya sauce – I use kikkoman soy sauce which I believe can be easily found in any country 1 tsp of sesame oil 1 extr large or 2 medium size cloves of garlic – grated
1cm of fresh ginger – grated 2 tbs of all purpose flour 1 tbs of corn starch 1 egg – Salt & Pepper to taste 1000ml of vegetable oil – ideally low to zero cholesterol
The Marination
- in a large bowl, beat the egg, add soy sauce, sesame oil, grated garlic & ginger, pinch of salt & pepper, add chicken, add corn starch, mix thoroughy, cover and keep in the fridge for at least 30 – 45 minutes.
- after renting well in the fridge, drain chicken from the excess marinate, coat with flour individually, set aside
- Heat low cholesterol oil in a large deep frying pan on high heat at approximately 350 degrees F – fry the four coated chicken for approximately 3 – 5 minutes, normally when we fry something we fry them until they turn golden brown, but remember these chicken have been marinated in soy sauce so the color will be much darker, but you can always eyeball them to know when they are cooked, once cooked, take them out of the cooking oil drain as much excess oil as possible, .additionally you can put them on a baking tray and continue cooking in the oven at 130 degrees centigrades for 15 – 20 minutes to ensure they are well cooked in the inside. And that’s it
Tori Karaage is great for bento boxes and to accompany drinks Itadakimasu!!!
