INDONESIAN MIE GORENG

WHAT IS MIE GORENG?

Mie goreng comes from the Indonesian words Mie ( Mie =  Noodle)  and (Goreng= Fry). It is one of the most popular dishes from Indonesia, it’s easy to make and can be ready in under  30 minutes.  what makes Indonesian Mie Goreng authentic and special is the noodles used to make it.   As a true Indonesian, I only make my Mie Goreng using Indomie,  one of the largest  Indonesian instant noodles brands to make Mie Goreng, and  I always have a few packets of them in my storage cupboard  handy .  there are a variety of flavors to choose from.  Chose either one you like and taste the difference yourself.  Indomie Instant Noodles can be found in your local Asian grocery store or supermarket globally. Please note only use the square packets, not the cups for making Mie Goreng.

HOW TO MAKE INDONESIAN MIE GORENG

  •   heat 1 tbs of oil in a large wok on medium-high heat
  • Fry 1 of the eggs,  scramble the egg in the wok, set aside.
  • Heat the remaining oil into the wok, saute the garlic until fragrant, keep it on low heat or keep eyeballing the heat to prevent the garlic from getting burnt, add the raw instant noodle from the packet. Yes raw, don’t worry we are cooking it in the process.
  • Add hot water Add you will see the water bubbling and immediately start cooking the noodle,
  • Add all of the seasoning and oil from the packets that come with the noodle, add in all the vegetables,  pour in hot water, add the scrambled egg and shredded chicken into the noodle, leave it to cook for approximately 5 minutes or until the water evaporates and the noodle is cooked.  if you see the noodle gets too dry add a little bit more water.  Just remember adding too much water will result in a noodle soup instead of fried noodle, be mindful in adding the water it’s better to add bit by bit as you can’t take it back once you have put too much.  Mie Goreng is ready once the noodle turns aldente.

You can serve Mie Goreng with a fried egg or fried chicken and prawn crackers.
